EXR's limited to 2GB for Infinimap EXR?
« on: March 27, 2009, 10:59:46 PM »

I'm finding that I cannot load EXRs into Infinimap EXR when they are over 2GB in file size. I have two 25K x 25K TIFF images that I've converted using ZIP lossless. The resulting file sizes are around 2.5 or so GB in size. When trying to load these into Infinimap EXR, I get an error. I then re-converted the TIFFs using PIZ lossless and the resulting EXRs were around 1.8 GB in size.

2 questions:

1.) What I am "losing" when using PIZ? I ask this because when I compare the files size of PIZ to ZIP on the same image, It's over 500MB in file size difference.
2.) Do I need to be using JPEG 2000 (and thus upgrade to Infinimap Pro)? I'm confused on this because on the site, I see screenshots where the Infinimap image is WELL over 2GB in size.

I am fine with using PIZ, as I'm kind of forced to do so, but I'm really curious about what I may be losing, if anything, when it comes to the final image detail / quality.

They should load. If they don't then it's a bug and I'll look into it (as I will).

Maybe a bit of performance when reading from the image. Other than that, nothing, PIZ is lossless.

No, I've checked with EXRs beyond 2GB (and even provided a patch for the standard EXR software distribution to allow for EXRs beyond 2GB on windows systems). I will re-check the latest build and fix it if needed.

Cheers,
Mike
