That turned into quite a saga. The WD 1 TB MyBook Pro is to be avoided at all costs. After 2 replacements and lots of hair pulling, they shipped a 2 TB unit out, which has been a solid performer. I think this was actually the root cause of the troubles. That said, the Mac Mini shows stutter over both Firewire and USB to external drives (WD, Toshiba and Buffalo(Samsung)) - not something that I have really diagnosed yet.

I'm still cautiously evaluating the WD drives and so far the replacements of the replacements of the replacements are working as they should. I will not give them a blanket recommendation yet, though.

I'm not sure if this is an OS X oddity either.

Hi Phil,

Did you get this all squared away? What FireWire drive were you using that was going to sleep? I use a number of LaCie d2 quad interface drives with FireWire 800 and they never go to sleep by themselves...

We've just released infiniMap V1.5.1 for Win32, Win64 and OSX-UB.

This is update fixes various bugs and issues of infiniMap V1.5.
Changes since Version 1.5

  • Fixed colour channel swap when creating proxy images from OpenEXR images
  • Fixed the dropping of tiles when loading from an OpenEXR image on multi-core machines
  • Fixed a crash when using front projection, due to infiniMap trying to aquire a global while rendering... one that isn't even needed at that point in time... d'oh
  • Multithreaded rendering is back at full speed again
  • The procedural texture now updates properly if the front projection camera changes
  • The nodes wouldn't render front projections at all... now they do.
  • Fixed bump mapping LoD
  • Slight speed-up handling UV maps
  • Added support for palettized images
  • Add Folder now works in the Converter on OSX
  • Fixed a crash when rendering with HDInstance

The new version is available in our downloads section.

We hope you'll enjoy working with infiniMap V1.5.1

Best Regards,
Your db&w team.

Since we're talking...

I've planned to add new outputs to the extended Node to allow for the normal maps.
This would have the advantage of including support for implicit projections (i.e. spherical projection) as opposed to being limited to UV projections only.

Cheers,
Mike

I don't own Infinimap (yet) but was hoping that it would work with this exact pipeline that lightwolf was hoping for as well, which is why I was thinking of buying it.

Being that there is no native support in Infinimap for Normal maps, what exactly is the "workaround" if any to get them in? In short, am I stuck on using my high resolution normal maps on my low resolution geometry the old fashioned lightwave way?
The workaround is to use Denis Tange Space node: http://pagesperso-orange.fr/dpont/plugins/nodes/Additionnal_Nodes_2.html
Any news when Infinimap will support normal maps just as it does the texture maps?
There'll be a V1.5.1 update out in a few days, once that is done I'll get to it. V1.6 should include normal map support then - hopefully in a couple of weeks.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi,

How can i get this c++ wrapper for lightwave?
There is no official release at this time. But I can change your account here to give you access.
and what interfaces does it support currently?
I would say around 50% of the globals and 50% of the LW plugin classes. However, adding new ones is fairly easy with a bit of C++ knowledge and elbow grease.

If you're interested I can give you access to the lwpp developer section on the forum.

Cheers,
Mike
