USB seems to be performing a lot better. The Macs were still running fine this morning. Strange how the Linux nodes have never caused this much trouble Cheesy
Hey, that's good news, congratulations! Cheesy

I'm not sure if this is an OS X oddity either.

Hi Phil,

Did you get this all squared away? What FireWire drive were you using that was going to sleep? I use a number of LaCie d2 quad interface drives with FireWire 800 and they never go to sleep by themselves...

That turned into quite a saga. The WD 1 TB MyBook Pro is to be avoided at all costs. After 2 replacements and lots of hair pulling, they shipped a 2 TB unit out, which has been a solid performer. I think this was actually the root cause of the troubles. That said, the Mac Mini shows stutter over both Firewire and USB to external drives (WD, Toshiba and Buffalo(Samsung)) - not something that I have really diagnosed yet.

I'm still cautiously evaluating the WD drives and so far the replacements of the replacements of the replacements are working as they should. I will not give them a blanket recommendation yet, though.
